Founded by Camilla Johnson-Hill, Eyes of World is a non-profit community project dedicated to help build bridges between communities and celebrate the diversity of cultures world-wide through the power of photography. Eyes of the World provides the opportunity for someone who finds one of our cameras, to enter a photography competition with the chance to win $5000 to go towards a community project of their choosing.
We have distributed our cameras around the world, enabling people from all walks of life to capture and share the beauty of their cultures and communities. We encourage participants to get creative and embrace their artistic expression whilst simultaneously showing the true essence of their communities.
You must get permission from anyone you photograph. By returning this camera to us you agree to our full terms and conditions. The disposable single use flash camera is preloaded with 27 exposures and ISO 400 quality film.
Rules
- Eyes of the World is a non-profit, global, community led, photographic competition.
- The promoter of this competition is TPC Collective("Promoter", "we" or "us"), 12 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH (Tel: 0207 221 1133).
- This competition is open to people around the world aged over 18, who finds or is given an Eyes of The World disposable camera in one of our Eyes of the World envelopes ("Camera"). Proof of age may be required.
- Each entrant ("entrant" or "you") should be an amateur photographer. Photographs must be taken of a place in your community and of something that represents part of your life. We reserve the right to exclude entries that we suspect are taken by a professional photographer and/or that have been artificially staged.
- The competition is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
- All entries must be submitted by mailing the Camera to 12 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH. using the prepaid envelope provided.
- When you have taken your photographs, to enter the competition, contact jay@camillajohnsonhill.com and we will arrange pick-up. The Camera must be mailed within 3 months of the date indicated on the ‘Dear camera holder’ Letter provided with your camera. Any entry which is late, incomplete or deemed inappropriate at our discretion will be rejected.
- We accept no responsibility for any technical failure, malfunction or any other problems with any Camera and any issues with postal services, internet access or otherwise which may result in an entry being lost, stolen, damaged, diverted or delayed.
- Each Camera will be developed on behalf of the Promoter who shall select 10 finalists, whose entries will be reviewed by a panel of independent judges. A selection of images will also be featured on the Eyes of the World photography competition Instagram page, the competition website and in the subsequent Eyes of the World photography competition publication or exhibitions and any public relations associated with the competition.
- The judges shall assess the entries and one winner will be selected based on the pictures that best showcase their community values. The judges’ decision shall be final and no correspondence regarding the result will be entered into.
- The winner's name will be announced on the competition Instagram page, the competition website, future publication, exhibitions and in the Eyes of the World photography competition PR material and you consent to us publishing your name and location in the event that you are selected as a finalist or winner.
- The winner shall receive an award which is $5,000 or an equivalent for an existing, selected not for profit project in their community. We reserve the right to put in place further reasonable measures as we deem appropriate to ensure that the award is properly used for the selected not for profit project as nominated and not for any inappropriate purpose.
- The winner will be notified by email or telephone (using the details provided on your entry form) within 30 days of a decision being made and must provide a postal address to claim their prize. While we will make reasonable efforts to contact the winner you may forfeit your prize and a replacement winner will be selected from the other applicants if, despite our efforts, we cannot locate you within 30 days.
- Once awarded, the prize will be non-exchangeable and non-transferable and we reserve the right not to proceed with the award where we have reason to believe that the prize (or any part) will not be used for its intended purpose of benefitting your community or may be unlawful under applicable law. In order to ensure that it is used appropriately, we may also make the award subject to further terms and conditions as we deem suitable.
- Please note your entry and Camera cannot be returned.Copyright in any photograph taken remains with you as the author/owner although by entering this competition, you agree to grant us a licence as set out in the Terms and Conditions below.
- We reserve the right to reject any entry or to refuse to award the prize to anyone who we find to be in breach of the Rules or the Terms and Conditions or where we have reason to believe their entry has been made deceitfully or they have otherwise acted in an unlawful or unethical matter.
Terms and Conditions
- By submitting an entry, you agree to be legally bound by the Rules and these Terms and Conditions.
- Any entry must be your own, original photographic work and it must not infringe the rights of third parties including copyright, trade mark, trade secrets, privacy, publicity, personal or proprietary rights. In addition, all entries must be produced legally without trespassing on any private property and no communities, wildlife or habitats should be harmed, put at risk or unduly disturbed in the process. Entries must not be obscene, blasphemous, racist or otherwise objectionable on moral or ethical grounds.
- By submitting your entry to us (including any text, photographs or graphics), you hereby: (i) grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub-licensable right and worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, display and exercise all publicity rights with respect to your entry, and/or to incorporate your entry in other works, in any media, for the full term of any rights that may exist in your entry; and (ii) unconditionally agree to waive and not assert any rights of confidentiality, moral rights or similar rights you have in respect of your entry. You also agree that we may use your photograph and any accompanying description or material you provide with it for any purpose and in any way we choose, including, but not limited to marketing, merchandise, publicity and advertising. You accept that you are not entitled to any payment in relation to our use or publication of your entry.
- The Promoter and our officers, staff, agents or contractors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage or for any costs, claims or demands of any nature whatsoever arising directly or indirectly out of your participation in this competition and the use of your entry or any part thereof. Insofar as is permitted by applicable law, we will not in any circumstance be liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any alleged loss or damage occurring as a result of any decision we make in how to award or allocate the prize as set out hereunder.
- You agree to indemnify the Promoter and its officers, staff, agents or contractors against any third party claims or actions (together with any associated costs, including professional legal fees) which they may suffer or incur as a result of you being in breach of any of the Rules or these Terms and Conditions.
- Your details and any other personal data you send us will be processed in connection with the competition as described hereunder in accordance with our privacy policy and applicable data protection law. You accept that your personal data may also be passed on to our contractors or agents as required for the running of this competition and the fulfilment/delivery/arrangement of the prize.
- The winner may be required to participate in publicity related to the competition which may include the publication of their name, description of their community and photographs in any media, including on our Instagram account.You agree that your personal data may be used for this purpose and for other purposes as we may notify you of in advance from time to time.
- For the avoidance of doubt, by submitting your entry, you warrant that all persons featured in your entry have given you their express consent for their image or other details to be used and, in the case of vulnerable adults or persons under 18 years of age, you warrant that you have obtained express consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) to use that image.
- This competition is governed by English law and to the fullest extent legally permitted, English Courts have exclusive jurisdiction. Your applicable statutory rights and any mandatory rights of action you may have under local law are not affected.
